Caitlin and Julie S. from the Office of the Small Business Ombudsman will walk attendees through the key do’s and don’ts of Oregon’s workers’ compensation system. The presentation will use real‑world examples to explain different aspects of workers’ compensation, helping employers make informed decisions for their businesses. The team will also answer questions and highlight the ways their office can support and advocate for small businesses when needed.
Caitlin has been serving as the Small Business Ombudsman since 2024. In this role, she helps employers navigate the complexities of the workers’ compensation system and ensures they are empowered to make informed decisions for their businesses. She has worked in various areas of workers’ compensation for more than seven years and has been with the state of Oregon for twelve. She holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration with a minor in human resources, as well as a master’s degree in organizational leadership. In her free time, Caitlin enjoys spending time with her children and playing on a coed indoor soccer team.
Julie Stratton is a Small Business Ombudsman for workers’ compensation with the Oregon Department of Consumer and Business Services. She helps employers understand workers compensation requirements, premium audits, classification codes, and independent contractor rules. Julie provides outreach and one on one guidance across Oregon to make the system easier for small businesses. She cares about clear communication and meeting people where they are. Outside of work, Julie explores Oregon and hosts a monthly craft night to build a supportive women’s network, keeping her connected to the communities she serves.
